Alex Cobb to start for Rays on Friday or Saturday

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Alex Cobb will rejoin Tampa's rotation on Friday or Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

What It Means:

Cobb has completed his rehab assignment, which is the final step in his long comeback from Tommy John surgery. He was very good before the injury, but he has also struggled in his rehab appearances. He also had to be shutdown earlier in his rehab, so it's hard to expect him to return to form immediately.

Cobb has not pitched since 2014 and he has been knocked around in some of his rehab games, evidenced by a 6.65 ERA in eight rehab appearances in High-A and Triple-A. In 143 1/3 innings in 2013, Cobb posted a superb 3.02 xFIP. He followed that up with a 3.33 xFIP in 166 1/3 innings in 2014.
