John Lackey will throw off mound Monday for Cubs

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher John Lackey (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Monday at Wrigley Field.

What It Means:

This will be Lackey's first time throwing off an elevated surface since first hurting his shoulder. It is unclear what the next step in Lackey's recovery will be assuming all goes well Monday, but either way, he will not be ready for his turn in the rotation this week. Mike Montgomery will get another start on Wednesday.

Lackey owns a 3.74 xFIP and a career-best 24.9 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.0 percent) in 158 1/3 innings pitched this season. He also has a solid 2.48 nERD for the 2016 season.
