Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Ervin Santana has cleared trade waivers according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
There are likely several teams now scrambling to work out a deal with the Twins before August 31st, which is the final day a player can be added to a potential postseason roster. Santana has been surging as of late, posting 11 straight quality starts with a 1.79 ERA over that same stretch. The only tricky part to a potential trade is the $28 million left on Santana's contract.
Since getting hot in late June, Santana has lowered his ERA to 3.33 with a 1.19 WHIP across 140 2/3 innings pitched this season. His ERA might be a bit misleading however, because he also has a 4.21 xFIP.
