Red Sox place Andrew Benintendi (knee, ankle) on 15-day disabled list
Boston Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee sprain.
Chris Young will likely take on the bulk of work in left field while Benintendi is sidelined, and he will start there Thursday. The 22-year-old appeared to badly injure both his left ankle and knee when he fell awkwardly while trying to avoid being tagged at second base Wednesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays. This could wind up being a season-ender for Benintendi, as doctors are still looking over the results from an MRI that was scheduled for Thursday morning.
Benintendi has only had 74 plate appearances in his rookie campaign, but he has looked good, slashing .324/.365/.485 with a .362 wOBA. He also posted a .384 wOBA and .219 ISO in 263 Double-A plate appearances this season.
