Minnesota Twins pitcher Hector Santiago (thumb) has been scratched from his scheduled Friday start against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Santiago is battling a bruised left thumb. He was rocked for eight runs over 4 2/3 innings against the Kansas City Royals in his last outing, but it's unknown if the thumb injury was to blame. Pat Dean -- and his 5.48 ERA -- will replace Santiago on Friday.
Santiago owns a 5.16 ERA and 5.25 xFIP in 139 2/3 innings this season with the Twins and Los Angeles Angels. We currently project the struggles to continue over the rest of the year, forecasting Santiago to record a 4.21 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP across 40 2/3 frames.
