Ivan Nova twirls complete game for Pirates Tuesday night

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Ivan Nova spun his first complete game since 2013 on Tuesday, holding the Houston Astros to one run over nine innings in a 7-1 victory.

What It Means:

Nova almost had a shutout on just 98 pitches, but back-to-back doubles to open the ninth put an end to that. In the end, he gave up one run on six hits while walking one and striking out six. Since being acquired from the New York Yankees, the 29-year-old right-hander is now 3-0 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in four starts (25 1/3 innings) for Pittsburgh. Next up is a road tilt with the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday.

On the season, Nova has twirled a 4.55 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 17.9 strikeout percentage across 122 2/3 innings of work.
