Astros' Luis Valbuena (hamstring) may need to undergo surgery

Houston Astros third baseman Luis Valbuena's right hamstring injury may still need surgery which hasn't been ruled out, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow.

What It Means:

Valbuena landed on the disabled list at the end of July with a right hamstring strain and suffered a setback while running on Friday. He's scheduled to see a doctor on Wednesday to decide the next step. "There's a possibility that there will be some surgical solution to his problem, which will definitely take him out from coming back this year," said Luhnow. "But we'll wait until the doctors assess what's going on."

Valbuena currently holds an .816 OPS in 342 plate appearances, with 13 home runs and a .350 wOBA this season.
