Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson (thumb) is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Cleveland Indians.
It's possible that Donaldson's absence is tied to jamming his right thumb on Wednesday, but it's likely that he returns to the lineup at some point this weekend. The Blue Jays are also resting shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on Friday. They will go with Darwin Barney at third base, while Ryan Goins gets the nod at shortstop.
Donaldson is having an outstanding season, slashing .289/.399/.556 with 28 home runs, a .267 ISO and a .402 wOBA (sixth-best). We project him to hit nine more taters and post a .939 OPS -- the second-highest projected total -- over the rest of the year.
