Joe Smith placed on 15-day disabled list for Chicago
The Chicago Cubs placed reliever Joe Smith on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
Since joining the Cubs, Smith has been a bust, allowing three earned runs, walking four hitters and giving up six hits over only 3 2/3 innings. He owns a 4.14 ERA across 41 1/3 total innings this season with the Cubs and Los Angeles Angles. The 32 year-old setup man will likely need a lengthy rehab assignment in the minors before rejoining the Cubs bullpen.
Smith's 4.85 xFIP ranks 16th worst among relievers this season and his 14.44 strikeout percentage is well below league average (20.98 percent). We currently project him to record a 4.06 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP over the rest of the year.
