Vincent Velasquez to make 'three or four more starts' for Phillies

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Vince Velasquez said he expects to make "three or four more starts" this season.

What It Means:

Velasquez has logged 113 innings of work on the year, easily surpassing the 88 2/3 innings he threw between the majors and minors in 2015. "I don't want to stop right now, at the stage I'm at right now," he stated Tuesday after punching out 10 batters, but also surrendering five runs, in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. "It's not the ending point. I want to have a few more starts. Probably three or four more starts, I would say, and finish strong." A shutdown is on the horizon.

In Velasquez's first full season as a starter, he's compiled a 3.74 xFIP, 1.36 WHIP and 27.31 strikeout percentage. The 24-year-old right-hander is 8-5 through 21 starts in 2016.
