Cubs' John Lackey (shoulder) could get extra rest

Chicago Cubs pitcher John Lackey (shoulder) may be given an extra day or two of rest before his next start, according to Cubs' manager Joe Maddon.

What It Means:

Lackey left his last start early with tightness in his shoulder, and while reports were originally that he would make his next start, the 37-year-old may get some additional rest before taking the mound again.

Lackey is sporting a solid 3.41 ERA and 3.70 SIERA on the year, with a career-high 24.88 percent strikeout rate through 158 1/3 innings.
