Drew Smyly allows only one hit over seven innings, Tampa Bay tops Padres

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Smyly dealt seven innings of one-run ball, allowing only one hit and two walks as the Rays beat the San Diego Padres 8-2 on Monday.

What It Means:

After a rough stretch through most of June and July, Smyly has been pitching well recently, and hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last five starts, all of which have gone at least six innings.

Smyly is sporting career-worsts in both ERA (4.85) and SIERA (4.01) this season. He also has a 23.26 percent strikeout rate and 6.42 percent walk rate through 137 1/3 innings on the year.
