Nationals might release Jonathan Papelbon
The Washington Nationals are about to make a roster move involving embattled former closer Jonathan Papelbon according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.
The 35 year-old pitcher lost his closing role for the Nationals when the team acquired Mark Melancon and Papelbon might be released sometime soon. He will likely be picked up somewhere, but it remains to be seen if he will be pitching in the ninth inning for another team this season.
Papelbon has a 4.37 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 35 innings on the season. He has blown three saves and his ERA will easily be the highest he has ever posted in his career.
