David Phelps takes loss despite five good innings for Marlins

Miami Marlins pitcher David Phelps took a loss Wednesday despite allowing just one run over five innings.

What It Means:

Phelps didn't get any run support from his offense in the 1-0 defeat. He allowed just four hits, although one of them was a home run by Brandon Crawford. Phelps has looked good in his two starts since moving from the bullpen, and has a nice matchup in his next start against the Cincinnati Reds. Their team wOBA (.304) ranks 26th. Phelps now owns a 2.40 ERA in 63 2/3 innings.

Phelps' xFIP actually increased to 3.36 after Wednesday's performance, and he owns a stellar 30.23 strikeout percentage on the year (league average is 21.01 percent). We currently project him to record a 3.29 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP over the remaining course of the season.
