Cardinals place Michael Wacha (shoulder) on the disabled list
The St. Louis Cardinals placed pitcher Michael Wacha on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.
Wacha was hit hard on Monday, allowing four runs in just five innings to the Cincinnati Reds, as his ERA for the season rose to 4.45. He's dealt with serious shoulder issues in the past and there is not currently a timetable for when he'll be able to return. Top prospect Alex Reyes -- and his 4.96 ERA in Triple-A this season -- has been called up to replace him.
Wacha owns a 4.00 xFIP in 131 1/3 innings this season with a 19.12 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.00 percent). We currently project him to record a 4.10 ERA over the rest of the year.
