Rangers' Prince Fielder expected to announce retirement Wednesday
Texas Rangers designated hitter Prince Fielder's career appears to be over, according to sources of FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News confirmed the news that Fielder is in fact done. The Rangers have a press conference scheduled for Wednesday and it is expected that Fielder will address his future during this time. Fielder, 32 years-old, recently had a second neck fusion surgery. He has $96 million left on a (guaranteed) contract that runs through 2020. If Fielder indeed chooses to hang up his cleats, he'll finish his carer with 319 home runs, which strangely, is the exact total that his dad, Cecil Fielder, ended his career with.
Prior to his injury this season, Fielder struggled to a .212/.292/.334 slash with eight homers and a .276 wOBA in 370 plate appearances. If this was his last season, he'll finish his big league career with a very respectable .283/.382/.506 slash.
