Athletics' Sonny Gray diagnosed with muscle strain in forearm
Oakland Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray was diagnosed with a muscle strain and inflammation in his right forearm.
Tests ruled out any structural damage for Gray, but he remains without a timetable for returning from the disabled list. "It’s a muscle strain with some inflammation, a little fluid at the top of the forearm," explained Athletics manager Bob Melvin. "We’re not sure how long that’s going to be, but it’s nothing structural. Nothing structural that (suggests) you’d have to have surgery." There's a chance Gray is able to make it back to the mound before the season is over.
Gray has a sky-high 5.74 ERA and 18.13 percent strikeout rate over 116 innings pitched this season. His punchout percentage is down over two full percentage points from 2015 and hitters own nearly a 33.90 percent hard hit rate against Gray this season.
