Chicago White Sox pitcher James Shields got destroyed on Sunday, going only 1 1/3 innings while allowing eight runs on six hits and two walks.
That was the fifth loss for Shields in his last six starts. He has given up eight home runs in that span, and this marks two straight games giving up six-plus earned runs.
Shields is sporting career-worsts in SIERA (5.19), strikeout rate (15.33 percent) and walk rate (9.76 percent) on the year. Our models do expect things to improve a bit for him, and we project him for a slightly better 4.85 ERA over the remainder of the season.
