Mariners' Ketel Marte (mono) set for rehab assignment
Seattle Mariners shortstop Ketel Marte (mono) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Low-A Everett.
Marte has been sidelined with mononucleosis since July 17, causing him to lose some weight, but he informed reporters earlier this week it won't be an issue and that he has already put the bulk of the weight back on. Shawn O'Malley and Luis Sardinas have been filling in at shortstop, although we anticipate Marte returning towards the beginning of next week.
Marte owns a .273/.299/.358 slash with eight stolen bases in 300 plate appearances this season. His .284 wOBA has regressed a bit from last year's .330 mark, but our models project him to post a .302 clip in 115 more plate appearances over the rest of the year.
