A.J. Ramos blows save for Marlins in loss to Cubs

Miami Marlins closer A.J. Ramos blew a save in brutal fashion Wednesday as the Marlins fell to the Chicago Cubs.

What It Means:

Ramos entered the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with a 4-2 lead and couldn't shut the door. After a leadoff double was followed by a single, Ramos then walked the next hitter, loading the bases. A sac-fly scored a run and moved up the other two runners. After striking out Kris Bryant for the second out, Ramos walked Anthony Rizzo intentionally to again load the bases. He then walked the next hitter, Ben Zobrist, unintentionally, for the tying run, and then threw a wild pitch to give the Cubs a walk-off 5-4 win. It was the second blown save of the season for Ramos, who owns 31 saves in 43 1/3 innings.

Ramos' ERA jumped from 2.53 to 3.12 after Wednesday's disaster, and he now owns a 4.13 xFIP. We project him to record a 2.72 ERA and a 30.21 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.02 percent) over the rest of the year.
