Houston Astros pitcher Joe Musgrove will take the injured Lance McCullers' (elbow) spot in the rotation, and start Sunday's game against the Texas Rangers.
Musgrove finds himself with a golden opportunity to cement a place in the rotation, as McCullers was just placed on the 15-day disabled list. In filling in after McCullers was forced out of Tuesday's start against the Toronto Blue Jays, the 23-year-old right-hander struck out eight and yielded just one hit over 4 1/3 scoreless frames.
Prior to his big-league promotion, Musgrove held a 2.74 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 25.66 percent strikeout rate and 2.95 percent walk rate through 85 1/3 innings between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Fresno.
