Angels ship Joe Smith to Cubs
The Los Angeles Angels traded reliever Joe Smith to the Chicago Cubs, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.
Smith's 3.82 ERA leaves something to be desired, as does his 15.63 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.00 percent) in 37 2/3 innings this season. However, he's served as a steady setup man for many seasons and the Cubs must believe that they can get him back on track. The return for the Angels is unknown.
Smith's 4.43 xFIP is a career worst, along with his strikeout percentage. Our models project him to record a 3.36 ERA and a 16.85 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
