Brewers trade lefty reliever Will Smith to Giants
Reliever Will Smith has been traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the San Francisco Giants, per Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.
In return, the Brewers will receive catcher Andrew Susac and pitching prospect Phil Bickford. Smith, a 27 year-old southpaw, has posted a 3.68 ERA and a 23.91 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.00 percent) in 22 innings this season since making his season debut in June returning from a torn LCL. He recorded a career-best 2.70 ERA in 63 1/3 innings last season. Smith is arbitration-eligible for three more seasons.
Smith owns a 4.15 xFIP and a below-league average 9.78 walk percentage this season. Our models currently project him to record a 3.60 ERA and a 25.40 strikeout percentage over the rest of the year.
