Mariners closing in on trade for Reds' Zack Cozart

The Seattle Mariners are closing in on a trade for Cincinnati Reds' shortstop Zack Cozart, reports Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune.

What It Means:

The deal is yet to be completed, but "both sides seem confident," per Dutton. After hitting .360 (79 plate appearances) to open the season, Cozart is hitting .243 (325 plate appearances) from May through July, but a .779 overall OPS has helped maintain his value. Cozart's arrival in Seattle would enable Ketel Marte (mono) more time to develop for the Mariners.

Despite the regression from April, Cozart owns a .196 ISO (compared to a .141 career-average) and has already matched his career-high with 15 jacks in 401 plate appearances on the year. Our models currently project him to hit .260/.318/.438 with seven more taters over the remainder of the season.
