Marlins to acquire Andrew Cashner from Padres

The Miami Marlins "have an agreement in place" to acquire San Diego Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner, reports ESPN's Buster Olney.

What It Means:

The Marlins will send away Jarred Cosart, Josh Naylor and Luis Castillo in the deal, while also yielding Colin Rea from San Diego. Cashner hasn't had his best season to date, but his last three games have been impressive (2.55 ERA, 17 2/3 innings), so Miami is hoping the 29-year-old right-hander will be able to continue producing at that rate. He's scheduled to be a free agent after the season.

Cashner has posted a 4.51 xFIP across 79 1/3 innings of work, which is on pace to be a career worst. Our models project him to record a 4.85 ERA and a 16.52 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
