Melvin Upton at cleanup for Blue Jays debut

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Melvin Upton is batting cleanup in his first start with the club on Wednesday against the San Diego Padres.

What It Means:

This will be his first time in action for Toronto after being acquired from the Padres on Tuesday morning in exchange for pitching prospect Hansel Rodriguez. Upton will replace Michael Saunders in left field for the matchup against right-hander Luis Perdomo and his former employer.

Upton has a 0.27 nERD on the year, good for only 164th in the majors, and he's currently slashing .255/.303/.438 with a .316 wOBA in 375 plate appearances. Our models currently project him to post a .317 wOBA while tallying 8 home runs, 26 RBI's and 9 stolen bases in 244 plate appearances over the remainder of the season.
