Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Wood will undergo an elbow debridement Wednesday and miss the next eight weeks.
Wood had been facing live hitters and seemed on the verge of being ready for a rehab assignment, but he'll now be sidelined through mid-September at the earliest. Wood last pitched on May 30 and his season is now in jeopardy. It's yet another major blow to the beleaguered Dodgers rotation.
Wood had been pitching well, posting a 3.31 xFIP and a 25.62 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.00 percent) in 56 1/3 innings this season. We currently give the Dodgers a 78.6 percent chance of making the playoffs.
