Hector Olivera (suspension) can begin rehab Friday for Braves

Atlanta Braves outfielder/third baseman Hector Olivera (suspension) can begin a minor league rehab assignment this Friday.

What It Means:

Olivera was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery on April 13 and was consequently suspended by Major League Baseball for 82 games (retroactive to April 30). He is first eligible to return on August 1, but it's "uncertain he'll be brought back," according to AJC.com's David O'Brien. The Los Angeles Dodgers originally signed Olivera out of Cuba in 2015 for $62.5 million, but he owns a poor .245/.296/.378 career slash through 108 plate appearances in the big leagues.

Olivera played 24 games last season and six this season before his suspension, posting a career wOBA of just .293 (league average is currently .319). Our models project him to record a .233 wOBA and .214/.267/.286 slash, with zero home runs, over the remaining course of the season.
