Rays send Hank Conger to AAA Durham
Tampa Bay Rays catcher Hank Conger was optioned to Triple-A Durham.
Conger has struggled both offensively and defensively this season, compelling the Rays to demote him in favor of Curt Casali. Casali hasn't been much better at the plate, but his defensive prowess is an improvement over Conger, and we expect him to handle the majority of the catching for Tampa Bay after the break.
Conger is slashing an underwhelming .194/.265/.306 in 137 plate appearances this season. He's also allowed 35 steals on 43 attempts.
