Red Sox place Craig Kimbrel on disabled list
The Boston Red Sox placed closer Craig Kimbrel on the 15-day disabled list with a medial meniscus tear in his left knee.
Boston acquired Brad Ziegler on Friday night to share closer duties with Koji Uehara while Kimbrel is on the shelf. Kimbrel will undergo surgery to repair the cartilage in his right knee and is expected to be out for three to six weeks.
Kimbrel has 17 saves with a strikeout rate of 37 percent over 33 innings pitched this season. Once he returns our models project him to have eight saves in 16 innings remaining this season.
