Joba Chamberlain

Indians designate Joba Chamberlain for assignment

The Cleveland Indians designated reliever Joba Chamberlain for assignment.

What It Means:

Chamberlain received the bad news despite sporting a 2.25 ERA across 20 innings this season. Maybe because his xFIP of 4.26 is more than two points higher than his ERA, or that his 13.4 walk percentage is significantly worse than the current league average (8.2 percent) is why he was designated for assignment. Cleveland called-up Mike Clevinger and T.J. House on Monday.

Chamberlain has bounced around since leaving the New York Yankees after the 2013 season, and has posted a solid 3.70 xFIP and a 21.1 strikeout percentage for his career since then. We had projected him to record a 3.46 ERA and an 18.4 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season before this news.
