Justin Nicolino to be recalled, start for Marlins on Friday

Miami Marlins pitcher Justin Nicolino will be recalled from Triple-A New Orleans to start on Friday against the Atlanta Braves. The Marlins swapped Nicolino out for Paul Clemens earlier this month, but Clemens was lost on waivers so Nicolino will get another shot. The soft-tossing lefty holds a 5.17 ERA over 10 starts this season.

What It Means:

Nicolino was sent down earlier in June, while Paul Clemens was called up. However, Clemens was lost on waivers and now Nicolino is granted with another trip to the mound for Miami.

The 24-year-old southpaw is 2-4 through 10 starts this season. He's recorded a 5.17 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 55 2/3 innings. Nicolino is striking out 4.37 batters per nine frames, which is actually a significant improvement over last year, when he was fanning 2.80 hitters per nine innings.
