A.J. Griffin holds Yankees to one run, Rangers unable to capitalize

Texas Rangers starting pitcher A.J. Griffin held the New York Yankees to one run and two hits over five innings in a 2-1 loss on Thursday.

What It Means:

This was Griffin's second start after a stint on the disabled list with some shoulder stiffness. The Rangers want to proceed with caution, as he was limited to 88 pitches in this one. He continues to perform well, though, adding eight strikeouts to his line, giving him 42 for the year.

Across 43 innings of work this season, Griffin has recorded a 2.93 ERA and is currently fanning 8.79 batters per nine innings on the year. With eight starts now under his belt, the 28-year-old right hander remains 3-0.
