Nationals place Stephen Strasburg on disabled list

The Washington Nationals have placed starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 16, with an upper back strain.

What It Means:

Strasburg was scratched from his start on Sunday after his back started bothering him on Saturday. He is eligible to come off the disabled list later this week, but he might need to miss one more start before getting back on the hill. Back issues are tricky, especially when you're a taller pitcher like Strasburg.

As is always the case with Strasburg, when he's healthy, he's the best. He owns a 2.87 SIERA, 31.9 percent strikeout rate and 6.5 percent walk rate through 93 innings this season. Strasburg did deal with neck and back ailments last year, as well.
