Mariners sending Nori Aoki down to the minors
Seattle Mariners outfielder Nori Aoki was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.
Aoki has disappointed with a .245/.323/.313 slash in 284 plate appearances this season, but this is still a surprising decision by the Mariners. The intent is for the 34-year-old to work on hitting off southpaws while in the minors, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.
The slash would be a career-worst across the board if he maintains his current level of play. Aoki has logged one home run and 11 RBI's this season, while also stealing four bases. His 10.90 strikeout rate is the highest mark of his career.
