Boston's Blake Swihart (ankle) cleared to begin throwing

Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart (ankle) is out of a walking boot and has been cleared for throwing.

What It Means:

Boston manager John Farrell said the progress "encouraging," but Swihart still has a long way to go. The Red Sox' backstop suffered a severe ankle sprain and is not expected back until August -- if he makes it back at all.

A former top prospect, Swihart struggled in all phases of the game this year and was removed from behind the plate, making a transition to the outfield. It's a small sample of just 74 plate appearances, but he posted just a .317 wOBA. The poor start to his career has probably opened up a buy-low opportunity in dynasty leagues.
