Victor Martinez taking afternoon off as Detroit battles Seattle
Detroit Tigers designated hitter/first baseman Victor Martinez is not in the starting lineup Thursday afternoon against the Seattle Mariners.
At 37-years-old, Martinez isn't suited to play very many day games. Miguel Cabrera is filling in at designated hitter while Jarrod Saltalamacchia will hold down first base.
Martinez's overall slash is .324/.372/.522 with an impressive .379 wOBA in 269 plate appearances this season. Our models project him to hit .275/.326/.444 with 11 home runs, 47 RBI's and a .331 wOBA over the remaining course of the season.
