San Francisco Giants outfielder Denard Span is out Monday versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Although Span has been battling a neck issue, Monday's absence appears to a maintenance day after his three-strikeout performance on Sunday. Angel Pagan will hit leadoff and Gregor Blanco gets the start in center field Monday against southpaw Jeff Locke.
Span has struggled in his first season with the Giants, slashing .248/.333/.340 with three home runs, seven stolen bases, and a .300 wOBA in 301 plate appearances. Our models currently project him to hit .269/.339/.366 with four taters, 13 steals, and a .313 wOBA over the remaining course of the season.
