Diamondbacks' Chris Owings close to starting rehab games

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop/outfielder Chris Owings (foot) could begin a rehab assignment with rookie league Arizona by the middle of the week.

What It Means:

Owings has been out for about a week with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The team hopes he will be ready to play by the end of June, and considering he has made progress over the last few days, the team is optimistic he will return to Phoenix by the final home stand of the month.

Owings is slashing .285/.340/.419 through 196 plate appearances this season. He has two homers and eight stolen bases, and we project him to post a wOBA of .286 with one homer and seven swipes remaining this season.
