Orioles' Tyler Wilson fires eight scoreless in win over Red Sox

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Tyler Wilson threw eight shutout innings in a 5-1 win over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday.

What It Means:

Wilson allowed only three hits and one walk while striking out six on Thursday. It was an unexpected start for Wilson, who hadn't won since May 11, and has allowed at least two runs in all of his other starts this season. He now owns a 4.16 ERA and 1.18 WHIP and will take on the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.

Wilson has a 4.69 xFIP and just a 12.8 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.1 percent) in 67 innings pitched this season. Our models currently project him to record a 4.23 ERA and an 11.5 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
