Dairon Blanco D. Blanco

Dairon Blanco called up by Royals, making season debut Monday

The Kansas City Royals selected the contract of outfielder Dairon Blanco from Triple-A Omaha on Monday.

What It Means:

The Royals designated Jackie Bradley for assignment and called up Blanco to replace him. Blanco will start in left field and hit ninth in Monday's series opener against right-hander Luke Weaver and the Cincinnati Reds. Drew Waters and MJ Melendez will be in the other two outfield spots again for Kansas City on Monday.

Blanco slashed a sizzling .347/.444/.451 with 3 homers, a triple, 7 doubles, 19 RBI, 47 steals, and 37 runs scored across 208 plate appearances in 49 games for Triple-A Omaha this season. Per numberFire's MLB Heat Map, the Royals' implied total is 4.32 and the game total is 8.5. Weaver has a 6.28 ERA, but a 4.51 xERA indicates some potential bad luck so far this season. The 29-year-old right-hander also has a 44.9% hard-hit rate, 22.3% strikeout rate, and career-best 5.3% walk rate.
