Chris Coghlan

Athletics trade Chris Coghlan back to Cubs

The Chicago Cubs acquired outfielder Chris Coghlan from the Oakland Athletics for second baseman Arismendy Alcantara.

What It Means:

It's a homecoming for Coghlan, who hit .250 with 16 HR and 41 RBI in 148 games for the Cubs in 2015. He's failed to replicate those numbers in Oakland, though his arrival comes at a convenient time for the Cubs with Tommy La Stella (hamstring) headed to the disabled list. With so many mouths to feed in Chicago's stacked lineup, Coghlan will have to settle for a part-time role.

Coghlan is hitting just .146 with 5 home runs and 14 RBIs through 172 plate appearances this season. He has a wOBA of just .215.
