Kelly Johnson

Mets acquire Kelly Johnson from Braves

The New York Mets acquired infielder Kelly Johnson from the Atlanta Braves for right-handed pitcher Akeel Morris.

What It Means:

Johnson played 49 regular-season games with the Mets last season and made 10 postseason plate appearances in their run to the World Series. He gives New York a versatile left-handed bench bat with some pop.

Johnson is slashing .215/.273/.289 through 132 plate appearances so far in 2016. We project him to post a wOBA of .294 and have six more home runs over the rest of the season. Morris, a 23-year-old former 10th-round pick, holds a 4.62 ERA in 25 1/3 innings this season at the Double-A level.
