Angels put Joe Smith (hamstring) on the disabled list
The Los Angeles Angels placed reliever Joe Smith on the 15-day disabled list with a hamstring strain.
Smith acknowledged over the weekend he's been dealing with hamstring discomfort for over 2 1/2 weeks, and the Angels will finally get him some extended rest. He filled in at closer while Huston Street was sidelined. He holds a 3.91 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 25 1/3 innings this season. It shouldn't be too long of an absence.
Smith's xFIP of 5.09 is significantly higher than his ERA, and his 15.6 strikeout percentage is well below the 21.1 percent that is league average. Our models currently project him to record a 3.33 ERA and 18.7 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
