The Chicago Cubs recalled right-handed pitcher Javier Assad from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday.
Assad will start in Thursday's series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers after Jameson Taillon (left groin strain) was scratched and placed on the injured list.
Assad has made two relief appearances for the Cubs this season and is unlikely to last too long.
