Tigers shifting Anibal Sanchez to bullpen
Detroit Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez will be moved to the bullpen, according to manager Brad Ausmus.
The nail in Sanchez's starting coffin came after the Los Angeles Angels lit him on fire for six runs in three innings on Tuesday. The 32-year-old right-hander will carry a 6.67 ERA and 1.68 WHIP (in 56 2/3 innings) into the bullpen. He will likely be used in low-leverage situations in the immediate future. Shane Greene (blister) could potentially take over Sanchez's spot in the rotation once he has finished up with his rehab assignment.
Sanchez owns a 5.33 xFIP and a below league average 18.6 strikeout percentage this season. Our models currently project him to record a 4.48 ERA and an 18.3 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
