Rays put Brad Boxberger (side) back on disabled list
The Tampa Bay Rays placed reliever Brad Boxberger on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique injury.
Boxberger suffered the injury Tuesday in his 2016 debut. He had missed the first eight weeks of the season following core muscle surgery in the spring, and that surgery was on the same side of this new injury. Alex Colome suddenly looks like a lock to keep the Rays' ninth-inning job all season, assuming he continues to pitch well.
Boxberger allowed two runs in just 2/3 of an inning before getting hurt. Colome has been excellent through 22 innings this season, posting a 1.83 xFIP, 36.3 strikeout percentage and 12 saves. Our models currently project him to record a 2.68 ERA, 22.6 strikeout percentage and 22 saves over the remaining course of the season.
