Indians' Marlon Byrd fails second drug test, suspended 162 games

Cleveland Indians outfielder Marlon Byrd has failed a second PED test and will be suspended 162 games by Major League Baseball, Vince Grzegorek of Cleveland Scene reports.

What It Means:

His first failed PED test was back in 2012, when first-time offenders were only suspended 50 games. Byrd is obviously done for the remainder of the 2016 season and could be done with Major League Baseball entirely considering he'll be a 39-year-old free agent this winter and will still have games to serve. All but 26 of his 159 career homers have come after his 30th birthday. This is the second PED suspension of the year for the Indians, who lost Abraham Almonte for 80 games in February.

With Michael Brantley injured, Byrd had given Cleveland solid production as a replacement, posting a .331 wOBA with five long balls.
