Braves, Jays working toward Jason Grilli deal
The Atlanta Braves are finalizing a trade that will send veteran reliever Jason Grilli to the Toronto Blue Jays, according to MLB.com's Mark Bowman.
It sounds like the negotiations could be wrapped up at some point Tuesday night. Grilli is sporting a rough 5.29 ERA, 1.71 WHIP, and 23/13 K/BB ratio through 17 innings this season out of the Atlanta bullpen. This is his age-39 campaign. Atlanta won't be getting much in return.
Grilli's 5.22 xFIP is not much better than his ERA, but his 28.4 strikeout percentage is impressive. Our models currently project him to record a 3.79 ERA and a 26.9 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season. The Blue Jays' 4.14 reliever xFIP ranks ninth-worst this season.
