Jonny Gomes tells WEEI's Bradford he isn't retiring

Unemployed left fielder Jonny Gomes told WEEI's Rob Bradford that he is not retiring.

What It Means:

Bradford tweeted that he "just talked to Jonny Gomes," so this about as certain as you're going to get outside of Gomes himself calling a press conference. Earlier in the day, MLB Daily Dish's Chris Cotillo had reported that the well-traveled veteran outfielder had decided to retire. Gomes played for the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan up until May 11, when he left "by mutual consent." He hit just .169/.280/.246 over 75 plate appearances in Nippon Professional Baseball.

Gomes ends his big league career with a .242/.333/.436 triple slash and a .335 wOBA in 4,009 total appearances at the plate. He hit more than 20 home runs in three different seasons, and hit 13 or more in another five seasons.
